Opened in early 2020, the new Olympic sized swimming pool at the Alan Higgs Centre in Coventry is a landmark facility for the area. Replacing the previous Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre, this purpose built and state-of-the-art centre houses multiple indoor and outdoor sports and leisure facilities.
The 50m swimming pool has a moveable deck making the pool suitable for all swimming abilities and has a dividing boom to split the pool for swimming lessons and other events. The designers also included a pool-pod accessibility platform to improve access for swimmers and guests with mobility needs.
In addition to the swimming pool, the Alan Higgs Centre has a member’s gym including exercise classrooms and cycling studio, as well as a health suite with jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Additionally, there are sports courts, function rooms and a public café and externally there are football pitches and a skate park.

Panels in 7-501A format were chosen for their impressive acoustic performance, achieving Class A when combined with LSA Black acoustic mineral wool.
The PEFC certified Yellow Pine panels were finished with both a coloured stain to enhance the natural warmth of the wood as well as additional protective lacquer which protects the panels in humid environments.
The versatile structure of the panel system allows for perfectly aligned installation on walls and ceilings. For wall installation each panel has notched and offset supporting cross braces which slot together both horizontally and vertically for perfect alignment.
Oranit panels benefit from being made of solid timber which allows for straightforward on-site panel cutting for both width and height. The structure of the panel is unaffected by width cuts and additional cross bracing pieces are always supplied to support panel length cuts.
