4,900 linear metres, roughly 300m², of linear ribs in rich natural Walnut veneer was installed to the walls and ceilings of the private lounge space at the new West Grove residential complex in Elephant Park, Southwark.

AHMM Architects worked closely with Lendlease and Southwark Council on the £2.3bn sustainable regeneration project in central London. The site aims to be the UKs first Climate Positive development by it’s completion in 2025, and is home to a new 2 acre park with 1,200 new trees and a zero net-carbon heating and hot water plant to support the 3,000 new homes and 50,000m2 of office and retail space bringing up to 1,000 jobs into the area.

The superlobby is the central hub for the West Grove residential element of Elephant Park, in addition to providing exclusive lounge space for residents it is also home to the 24h concierge and residents’ function rooms and workspaces.

Linear ribs were installed to the walls and ceilings of the super lobby for acoustic control as well as giving texture and warmth to the space. A mix of wide and narrow ribs were used to exaggerate the size of the minimalist space as well as to more easily allow for the integration of lighting into the ceiling.
